In this group exhibition inspired by science fiction and set in an underground car park in central London, Andrea Morucchio presents his Suspense Pulp series, a striking bidimensional installation composed of six 30x30 cm prints on mirrored perspex.
Morucchio’s work draws inspiration from the 1950s science fiction films and comic books, which echoed the era's anxieties by depicting alien monsters as invaders from the farthest reaches of space. The reference to "pulp" connects to the gritty, low-quality paper of early comic books, emphasizing their raw and "dirty" aesthetic.
Through the reflective surfaces of the prints, Morucchio intertwines past and present fears, weaving them into a narrative of suspense and deferred terror.
Spread across four floors and 12,000m² of the parking lot, this exhibition showcases immersive visual works and installations by over one hundred artists, all products of a “spontaneous exploration” of the sci-fi theme. "We live in apocalyptic times, and we all must pay attention," warns Vanya Balogh, the curator. The exhibition invites us to reflect on what science fiction reveals about our present reality between a retro-futuristic vision and a dystopian present.
