Signatura Rerum

Signatura Rerum are plates of thorns in glass reveal the spiritual substance of some red thorns I collected from a tree in Murano. Starting from the cast of these thorns, I ended up with a piece of glass which, like a fossil, faithfully reproduces the shape and volume of an organism.

These objects were created by Morucchio expressly for an exhibition, Glass Dressing at the Ca 'Rezzonico Museum in Venice and Revoltella Museum in Trieste.

According to Jacob Bohme, the Signatura Rerum expresses the possibility that the corporeal nature of things manifests its own interior to men's senses via an external imprint; corporeity as a revealing-anagogic means of the spiritual and eschatologically as its perfect manifestation.

Following this principle the medieval alchemists sought in the shape and color of the plant to go back to a shaping force which revealed itself behind those physical characteristics and by what determined the healing power. The piece of glass becomes a pendant representing the immaterial, purely energetic composition of the thorns and which, when worn, determines a contact with that type of function and energy of which the thorn itself  is the bearer.

Signatura Rerum sono lastre di spine in vetro che rivelano la sostanza spirituale di alcune spine rosse che ho raccolto da un albero a Murano. A partire dallo stampo di queste spine ho ottenuto un pezzo di vetro che, come un fossile, riproduce fedelmente la forma e il volume di un organismo.

Secondo Jacob Bohme, la Signatura Rerum esprime la possibilità che la natura corporea delle cose manifesti il proprio interno ai sensi degli uomini attraverso un’impronta esterna; corporeità come mezzo rivelatore-anagogico dello spirituale ed escatologicamente come la sua manifestazione perfetta.

Seguendo questo principio, gli alchimisti medievali hanno cercato nella forma e nel colore della pianta di tornare a una forza modellante che si è rivelata dietro quelle caratteristiche fisiche e da ciò che ha determinato il potere curativo. Il pezzo di vetro diventa un ciondolo che rappresenta la composizione immateriale e puramente energetica delle spine e che, una volta indossato, determina un contatto con quel tipo di funzione ed energia di cui la spina stessa è portatrice.
