Salon Des Etrangers (Strangers Lounge) is an exhibition inspired by Albert Camus’s novel The Outsider, organized for the historic 60th Biennale di Venezia. The show features works by 100 international artists from countries such as Spain, Italy, China, and the USA. It serves as a meeting point for contemporary existentialists and surrealists to explore themes of identity, nostalgia, artifice, and strangeness through uniformly A4-sized works, resembling imaginary cards.
Divided into two dimensions (material and ephemeral), the exhibition reflects the absurd and the uncanny in modern life, addressing questions of meaning, paradoxes, and contradictions. Through art, it delves into universal human concerns of existence and continuity, symbolically challenging life’s finiteness. The outcomes of this existential exploration are shaped by the perspectives of the participating artists.
